Longwood Welcomes Radford Saturday At 2 p.m.

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University will host fellow Big South Conference North Division opponent Radford University on Saturday, February 16, at 2 p.m. in Willett Hall for our annual men's basketball Reunion Day that features a Jerome Kersey Bobblehead giveaway.  In addition, an Alumni Game will take place at 11 a.m.  The Lancers (4-22, 1-11 Big South) are led by the outside-inside duo of 6-4 junior guard Tristan Carey/Colonial Beach (14.4 points, 57 3FGs) and 6-9 freshman forward Michael Kessens/Nyon, Switzerland (12.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 54% FG).  The Highlanders (12-14, 6-6 Big South) are led by 6-4 sophomore forward Javonte Green (14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds) and 6-0 sophomore guard R.J. Price (14.3 points, 72 3FGs).

Reunion Day/Jerome Kersey Bobblehead Giveaway
All returning former Longwood men's basketball players will be recognized at halftime, including Jerome Kersey, the two-time Longwood All-American who played 17 seasons (1984-2001) in the NBA -- 11 in Portland (1984-95) before winning an NBA Championship with San Antonio (1999).  At least five who scored over 1,000 career points are expected back, including Kersey '84 (1,756), Kevin Jefferson '90 (1,806), Maurice Sumter '07 (1,604), Dana Smith '10 (1,540) and Martiz Washington '12 (1,089).  Others expected to be here include: Ron Thornhill '79, Randy Johnson '82, Orlando Turner '82, Mitch Walker '82, Dalany Brown '83, Keith Morgan '90, William Dunn '91, Keith Latimer '91, Junior Burr '96, DeVonne Johnson '96, Vince Walden '98, Umar Bowers '00, Jon Hughes '00, Matt Donohue '02, Chris Isaacs '02, Brandon Giles '08, EJ Dawson '10, Billy Robinson Jr. '10 and Kevin Swecker '10.

Series History
Longwood and Radford have met 17 times since 1977 and the Highlanders lead the overall series, 13-4, including an 82-72 home win last month on January 16.  R.J. Price (30), Javonte Green (13) and Ya Ya Anderson (12) combined for 55 points for the hosts, while Tristan Carey (23), Michael Kessens (12) and Lucas Woodhouse (12) combined for 47 points for the visitors.  The Lancers are 4-4 against Radford in Farmville.

A Look At Longwood
Longwood dropped an 82-53 home decision to North Division leader High Point on Feb. 13.  The Lancers are coached by 10th-year head coach Mike Gillian and are led by Tristan Carey (14.4 points, 57 3FG) and Michael Kessens (12.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 54% FG).  Jeylani Dublin (9.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 51% FG) and David Robinson (8.9 points, 31 3FG), along with Karl Ziegler (5.8 points) and Lucas Woodhouse (3.0 points, 4.4 assists), have also been in the lineup.  Longwood is scoring 64.7 points per game, allowing 81.3 points, while shooting 43% from the field, including 30% on three-pointers (4.7) and 67% at the line.

A Look At Radford
Radford took an 82-79 road win at North Division and in-state rival VMI on February 13.  Mike Jones is in his second season with the Highlanders, where he has compiled a record of 18-40.  Javonte Green (14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds) and R.J. Price (14.3 points, 72 3FG) lead Radford, who is scoring 68.3 points per game, ironically allowing 68.3 points, while shooting 41% from the field, including 33% on three-pointers (6.5) and 64% at the line.

This Is A First
Longwood is eligible for league statistical rankings for the first time in its Division I era. Through Feb. 13, Tristan Carey leads the conference in steals (2.2), is sixth in three-point field goals (2.2) and minutes (33.6), seventh in three-point percentage (35%), 11th in scoring (14.4) and 14th in field goal percentage (42%) and defensive rebounds (4.0).  Michael Kessens is tied for first in double-doubles (9), second in field goal percentage (54%), rebounding (8.8) and defensive rebounds (6.0), fifth in blocks (1.2) and offensive rebounds (2.8), 10th in minutes (32.4) and 20th in scoring (12.6).  Lucas Woodhouse is fourth in assists (4.4), eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and tied for 17th in double-doubles (1).  Jeylani Dublin is tied for 10th in double-doubles (2), 13th in offensive rebounds (2.3) and 17th in rebounding (5.4).

Big South-Only
In 12 Big South games, Tristan Carey leads the league in steals (2.3), is 10th in three-pointers (2.3), tied for 10th in minutes (33.8), 13th in three-point percentage (36%), 14th in defensive rebounds (4.2), and 15th in scoring (14.3) and field goal percentage (41%).  Lucas Woodhouse leads the league in assists (6.7) and is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.0).  Michael Kessens is second in field goal percentage (56%), third in defensive rebounds (5.8), tied for sixth in rebounding (7.6), ninth in minutes (34.3), tied for 11th in blocks (0.8) and 18th in scoring (13.9).

Who's Hot?
Michael Kessens is averaging 16.5 points in his last six games, making 42-71 field goals (59%).  Tristan Carey has scored in double-figures in each of his last 11 games, averaging 14.8 points and 2.4 steals.  Lucas Woodhouse is averaging 5.0 points and 7.4 assists in his last nine games.  Jeylani Dublin is averaging 10.7 points in his last six games.  David Robinson is averaging 9.9 points in his last eight games.
