FINAL RESULTS (PDF)

BUENA VISTA, Va. --
Junior Brittany Foote/Goshen, New York ran a 5K time of 20:18 to lead Longwood University to an 11th place finish among 12 teams with 311 points on Saturday at the 2013 Big South Women's Cross Country Championship hosted by VMI at the Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista.  Coastal Carolina University won the race with its 56 points, while CCU's Letitia Saayman was the individual winner with her time of 17:46.  Longwood will complete its campaign at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at the Panorama Farms on November 15 at 1:15 p.m. in Earlysville.

Foote finished 47th overall among the 94 runners, and was followed by freshman Gracie Piekarski/South Plainfield, New Jersey (20:38, 56th), junior Elisabeth Drake/Hayes (21:45, 75th), sophomore Emily Krause/Fredericksburg (22:46, 80th), junior Hanna Sacks/Fairfax (25:01, 91st), senior Emberli McGann/Stuarts Draft (25:42, 92nd) and freshman Hannah Fielder/Alexandria (27:08, 94th).  Piekarski ran new collegiate-best time for the distance on the difficult course.

"The women's 11th place finish is not reflective of each girl's individual performance," said seventh-year Longwood head coach Catherine Hanson.  "Five of the six who ran here in September improved their times significantly, including one (Piekarski) with a new collegiate-best.  The degree of difficulty on this course demonstrates their incredible progress.  I am very proud."

Longwood matched its 11th-place finish at last year's conference championship.
