FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will host a Big South Conference Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinal match on Saturday night, November 2, against High Point University at the Athletics Complex in Farmville at 7 p.m. The Lancers, who have an overall record of 9-8-2, finished 8-3 in the Big South to earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Panthers, who have a record of 8-9-1 overall, finished 6-4-1 in the Big South to garner the No. 6 seed. Longwood defeated High Point by a score of 4-2 during a regular season match in Farmville on October 9. The postseason Big South Championship event includes ticket prices of $4 for adults and $1 for students with an ID. Admission is free for children ages five and under.
"Our first goal every season is to qualify for the conference tournament," said 20th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. "After that, our goal is to finish in the top four and earn the right to host that first round game. For the second year in a row we've been able to do that, so now it's just a matter of taking full advantage of this opportunity.
"Now that we're in, the seeds mean absolutely nothing and we're simply one of eight teams that are capable of winning it all. It's fitting that we play High Point in the first round because they're last year's regular season champion and one of the most accomplished programs in the league these past few years. We expect a very difficult game Saturday night, but we're excited to kickoff this post-season opportunity and look forward to competing in front of our home crowd."
