FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University women's basketball head coach
Bill Reinson has announced the appointment of Adria Crawford as a new Assistant Coach with the program. She is a 2012 graduate of Georgetown University from the BIG EAST Conference and was a four-year member of the women's basketball team, starting 80 of 131 career games. The Hoyas finished 2011-12 with a final record of 23-9 while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as Crawford started 19 of 31 games while averaging 4.6 points and 6.0 rebounds, earning a BIG EAST All-Academic Award. She will be involved in all aspects of the Lancers' program, including both on- and off-campus recruiting, opponent scouting and game plan preparation, coordination of team travel, player skill development, and practice preparation.
“Adria just completed an outstanding career at a very successful Georgetown program,” said Reinson. “She is an intense competitor, with a strong work ethic, who will be a positive role model for our young players. Our program is moving in a direction that focuses on intensity and athleticism, and Adria personifies that philosophy. I am confident she will be a terrific addition to our staff.”
Crawford finished her career at Georgetown with 734 career points and 646 career rebounds as a member of a class that won 93 games (best in GU history) while ranking second in career games and among the top 15 in rebounds, steals (174), and blocks (61). She earned the school's Abigail Dillon Mullan Scholar-Athlete Award two times (2011, 2012) along with the Joe Lonardo Rebounding Award (2012) and the Laura 'Farina' Hustle Award (2009). Crawford was also a BIG EAST All-Academic Award recipient in 2010.
Crawford became the first female head coach of a boys team in the Fairfax Stars AAU Basketball Program earlier this year. She was a camp counselor at the Georgetown Women's Basketball Camp (2009-12) and the Mike Bozeman Academy Basketball Camp (2009-10). Crawford has worked as a counselor for the Fairfax County Summer RecQuest (2011, 2012), a coordinator at the Center for Social Justice - D.C. After School Kinds Program (2010-11), a city campus liaison at Georgetown (2010-11), a resident coordinator at Georgetown (2009-11), and a volunteer for Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services (2009).
A native of Alexandria, Crawford earned her Bachelor of Art degree in sociology and theology from Georgetown in 2012.
