SPOKANE, Wash. -- Longwood University dropped a 92-60 men's basketball decision on the road at Gonzaga University of the West Coast Conference Monday night in Spokane, Washington. The Lancers (10-20) trailed just 25-19 with just over eight minutes left in the first half before the talented Bulldogs (24-5) closed the half with a 21-2 run to lead 46-21 at the break en route to their home victory. Antwan Carter|St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg) with 19 points, adding seven rebounds, while sophomore
Tristan Carey|Colonial Beach (La Salle) added 16 points and five rebounds for the visitors. Gonzaga was led by Gary Bell, Jr. with a game-high 20 points. Longwood will play its final game of the 2011-12 season on Wednesday night, February 29, at Seattle University at 10:10 p.m. ET.
Longwood scored the first basket of the game as Carey made a jumper just four-seconds in, but Gonzaga used an 18-9 run to lead 18-11 at 11:58 as Kevin Pangos made two three-point field goals and Bell added one as well. The Lancers closed to within 18-14 at 10:02 on a three-pointer by Carter, and the visitors were within 25-19 at 8:17 after another three-pointer from Carter and a jumper by senior

The Bulldogs, however, took advantage of the 21-2 run to close the first half while leading comfortably at 46-21 at the break as Bell scored seven of the points for the hosts. Bell had 14 points at the intermission, while Carter had 10 first-half points.
Longwood managed to close to within 48-23 early in the second half with 17:22 remaining on a layup by sophomore
Jeff Havenstein|Mt. Airy, Md. (Linganore). Gonzaga, though, took its largest lead of the night at 69-34 with 11:27 on the clock and the margin stayed between 28-34 points the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs did play their entire 12-player roster available on the night, while the Lancers continue playing out the campaign with only seven healthy players available. Carter and Carey each scored nine points in the second half for LU, and GU head coach Mark Few graciously had some kind words for Carter during the post-game handshakes between the two teams.
Carter led Longwood with 19 points, adding seven rebounds. Carey finished with 16 points and five rebounds, and van der Kooij added eight points and eight rebounds. LU shot 39% (23-59) from the field, including 31% (8-26) on three-pointers, and 86% (6-7) at the free throw line.
Bell led Gonzaga with a game-high 20 points, including 6-9 three-pointers. Marquis Carter finished with 13 points, while Pangos and Ryan Spangler each had 12 points with Spangler adding a game-high 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs. GU shot 56% (35-63) from the field, including 46% (13-28) on three-pointers, and 64% (9-13) at the line.
It was the first meeting between the two schools in the sport.
