Longwood Falls On The Road At VCU 93-56

RICHMOND, Va. – Troy Daniels scored a game-high 25 points, making 7-13 three-point field goals, to lead VCU to a 93-56 non-conference men's basketball decision past Longwood University on Friday night at the Siegel Center in Richmond.  Junior David Robinson|Chesterfield led the Lancers (3-10) with 18 points.  The Rams (9-3) made 14-28 three-pointers in the contest and also got 20 points from Juvonte Reddic.  Longwood will take a break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on December 31, hosting a special New Year's Eve matinee against Fairleigh Dickinson University at Willett Hall in Farmville at 2 p.m.  There will be FREE admission for everyone that afternoon.

Longwood fell behind 9-0 at VCU as Treveon Graham scored five quick points and Reddic added four during the first 1:31.  Junior Tristan Carey|Colonial Beach finally put the Lancers on the board with a layup at 17:32, and after a pair of free throws by Graham and another basket inside from Reddic, connected on a three-pointer at 16:06 to make it 13-5.  Graham and Carey traded three-pointers as the scoreboard read 16-8 at 14:45, and it was 19-10 at 12:59 following a layup from freshman Nik Brown|Ashburn.  The visitors were within 22-14 at 11:31 after a jumper by redshirt-sophomore Jeylani Dublin|Brooklyn, New York, but VCU outscored Longwood 28-17 over the final 10:53 of the half to lead comfortably at the intermission, 50-31.  Graham (15), Reddic (12) and Daniels (11) combined for 38 first-half points, while Carey (12) and Robinson (9) totaled 21, including a rare four-point play by Robinson to end the period when fouled on a made three-pointer and converting the free throw.

Longwood battled early in the second half and was still within 59-40 at 18:14 following seven quick points from Robinson.  VCU, however, took complete control with a 17-0 run to lead 76-40 with 10:40 left to play – getting points from six different players, including back-to-back three-pointers from Rob Brandenberg to close the run.  Consecutive three-pointers by Daniels later gave the Rams their largest lead at 86-42 with 7:22 remaining that ended a 27-2 onslaught.  The Lancers were able to outscore the hosts 14-7 over the final 6:42 to provide for the final margin.

Robinson led Longwood with his 18 points, making 3-7 three-pointers.  Carey had 17 points, making 3-6 three-pointers, adding seven rebounds and four steals for the Lancers.  Dublin finished with 10 points, and freshman Michael Kessens|Nyon, Switzerland contributed a game-high nine rebounds but did not score.  LU shot 41.5% (22-53) from the field, including 40.0% (6-15) on three-pointers, and 50.0% (6-12) at the free throw line.

Daniels led VCU with his game-high 25 points, making 7-13 three-pointers.  Reddic had 20 points (9-12 FGs, 2-2 FTs) for the Rams.  Graham finished with 16 points (3-3 3FGs) and Brandenberg had 11 points (3-5 3FGs).  Briante Weber and Darius Theus each added game highs of nine assists and five steals, respectively.  VCU shot 51.4% (36-70) from the field, including 50.0% (14-28) on three-pointers, and 77.8% (7-9) at the line.  The hosts forced 27 Longwood turnovers that were converted into 31 points.

Longwood and VCU were meeting for the fourth time in the sport, and the Rams lead the series, 4-0.
