Enjoying his 10th year as the head coach during 2012-13, Gillian becomes the longest-tenured head coach in the 36-year history of the program.

Longwood has attained an impressive home record of 46-19 in Willett Hall over the last five seasons since receiving its NCAA Division I certification and eligibility for 2007-08. Overall, Longwood has compiled a record of 264-138 on its home court over 32 seasons of men's basketball in Willett Hall.
An Impressive Debut
Michael Kessens made his collegiate debut at Marshall and led Longwood with 11 points, including 7-10 free throws, adding five rebounds, two steals and one block in 30 minutes. A 6-9, 205-pound forward, he is from Nyon, Switzerland and played high school basketball in Cholet, France where he was also a member of the French U21 Champions in both 2009 and 2010.
Perseverance Pays Off
Jeylani Dublin only played in 29 games during his first two seasons with the program, including just four games last year with averages of 4.8 minutes, 1.8 points and 0.5 rebounds. He missed the final 22 games a year ago with a broken hand and received a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA. Dublin came off the bench at Marshall and had career highs of 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes. A 6-6, 225-pound forward, he is from Brooklyn, New York.
Quick Turnaround Needed
Tristan Carey and
David Robinson did not enjoy the kind of start to their respective seasons that they had expected. A 6-4, 185-pound guard from Colonial Beach, Carey started and finished with eight points, two rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes. A 6-4, 190-pound guard from Chesterfield, Robinson also started and finished with three points and one assist in 19 minutes.
Welcome To College Basketball
Besides
Michael Kessens, true freshmen
Lucas Woodhouse and
Karl Ziegler each made their collegiate debuts at Marshall. A 6-1, 155-pound guard from Greenlawn, New York, Woodhouse started and had five points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal in 27 minutes. He made his first collegiate field goal attempt, also the first basket of the game for Longwood, a 10-foot baseline jumper four minutes into the contest (16:00). A 6-6, 205-pound forward from Annandale, Ziegler came off the bench and had five points and one rebound in 13 minutes.
Oh No, Not Again …
Longwood expected to start sophomore
Frank Holloway and freshman
Nik Brown at Marshall to open the season. Unfortunately, Brown re-injured an ankle in practice two days before the first game, and Holloway re-injured a shoulder the day before the opener causing both to miss the game. A 6-3, 200-pound guard, Brown could see action against Norfolk State. A 6-6, 250-pound forward, Holloway is out indefinitely. Fortunately, Longwood has a full roster of 13. The Lancers had to play their last seven games during 2011-12 with only seven healthy players dressed in uniform and available to play due to injuries (3), a suspension (1) and a team defection (1).
