FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Longwood University dropped a 73-54 women's basketball decision at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne of the Summit League on Monday night in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Senior Brittanni Billups|Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) paced the Lancers with a season-high 21 points and seven rebounds, while junior Chelsea Coward|Mechanicsville (Hanover) added 13 points. IPFW (7-11) was led by Anne Boese with 20 points. Longwood (4-17) returns to action on Saturday, January 21, when it hosts Dartmouth College of the Ivy League at 2 p.m. in Willett Hall in Farmville for the Pink Zone game.

Longwood jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a layup by Billups in the first minute. The hosts took the lead and led by five (7-2) with 16:15 remaining. The Lancers trimmed the lead to two, but IPFW went on a 20-3 run over the next 7:33 to lead 27-8 with 7:56 remaining in the first half. Longwood answered with a 5-0 run, capped with a layup by freshman LeeAnn Sullivan|Fredericksburg (Stafford) to trail 27-13 with 6:00 remaining. IPFW extended the lead to as many as 21 points in the first half and led 41-25 at halftime.

Coward scored six of the first eight points of the second half for the Lancers as they trailed by 15 (50-35) with 14:50 remaining. The Mastodons led 61-38 with 9:58 remaining. Longwood never got closer than 17 the rest of the way and IPFW won 73-54.

Billups scored a season-high 21 points (8-10 FG, 5-5 FT) with a team-high seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Coward added 13 points (4-10 FG, 5-8 FT), five rebounds and two assists. Longwood turned 12 offensive rebounds in to 12 points and scored 26 points in the paint. Junior Crystal Smith|Richmond (Meadowbrook) dished out a team-high six assists and added six points (2-13 FG, 1-5 3FG) and two steals. Longwood had 12 assists, four blocked shots and eight steals.

Boese paced the Mastodons with 20 points (7-9 FG, 6-8 3FG), while Amanda Hyde added 13 points (4-7 FG, 4-6 FT), seven rebounds and four assists. Erin Murphy scored 11 points (3-9 FG, 5-5 FT). IPFW out-rebounded Longwood 36-28 and dished out 12 assists with nine steals. The Mastodons turned 16 Longwood turnovers in to 18 points and received 24 points from the bench.

Longwood leads the all-time series 4-2, but IPFW has won the last two meetings.
