LEXINGTON, Va. -- Longwood University opened its 2011 women's cross country season by scoring 58 points to finish sixth among six teams Friday afternoon at the VMI Relays in Lexington at the Virginia Horse Center. James Madison University took first place with 14 points, and Alison Zukowski from the University of Cincinnati took first place individually with her time of 17:34, while the Lancers were led by senior
Jessica Alley|New Castle (Craig County) with her time of 19:07 over three miles. Longwood will run again next Saturday, September 10, at the James Madison Invitational in New Market near Harrisonburg.
At VMI, the non-traditional relay race included groups of two runners completing two legs of 1.5 miles each for six miles total among duos. Longwood was led by Alley (19:07) and freshman
Elisabeth Drake|Hayes (Gloucester) (20:54) who placed 14th with their combined time of 40:01. They were followed by junior
Jenna Sprinkle|Buchanan (James River) (22:11) and sophomore
