Longwood Plays Prairie View A&M Friday; Lancers Face UMKC Or Wofford Saturday

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Longwood University men's basketball will continue its competition in the exempt Chicago Invitational Challenge against Prairie View A&M University of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Friday afternoon, November 25, at 1 p.m. ET at the Sears Centre Arena (10,000) in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  The Lancers (1-4) are coached by Mike Gillian, and led by senior center Antwan Carter|St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg) (16.4 points, 9.6 rebounds) and senior guard Jeremiah Bowman|Washington, D.C. (Harcum JC) (15.0 points, 5.0 assists).  The Panthers (2-3) are coached by Byron Rimm II, and led by junior guard Jourdan DeMuynck (10.6 points, 6.2 rebounds) and sophomore guard Louis Munks (10.0 points, 6 3FGs).  Longwood will play either UMKC or Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 26, at either 12:30 or 3 p.m.  The two games can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM and free on the Internet as well via TEAMLINE.

Chicago Invitational Challenge
Longwood is participating in this exempt four-game Chicago Invitational Challenge November 18-26.  The first two games of the tournament for the Lancers took place on the road at Brigham Young (L 92-60, 11.18) and Nevada (L 80-78, 11.22) before the opportunity to play two neutral-site games here at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois against Prairie View A&M (11.25) and either UMKC or Wofford (11.26).  Wisconsin and Bradley are also in the eight-team field, and this is LU's second appearance in the Chicago Invitational (2007).  Unfortunately, Longwood was 0-4 in the event that season with road losses at #8 Indiana (100-49) and Kent State (80-62) before the neutral-site losses to UNC Wilmington (80-65) and Southeast Missouri State (82-78) at the Sears Centre Arena.

Series History
Longwood and Prairie View A&M are meeting first time ever in the sport of men's basketball.  The Lancers have played UMKC two times previously, falling to the Kangaroos 79-69 (12.3.05) in Missouri and 74-51 (2.14.05) in Virginia.  LU has played Wofford once before, falling 90-80 (2.6.93) in South Carolina when both programs were competing at the Division II level.

A Look At Prairie View A&M
Prairie View A&M is coached by Byron Rimm II who is in his sixth year as head coach, including a record of 2-3 this season after its recent road losses at Nevada (60-47, 11.20) and BYU (90-51, 11.22) during the Chicago Invitational Challenge.  Junior guard Jourdan DeMuynck (10.6 points, 6.2 rebounds) and sophomore guard Louis Munks (10.0 points, 6 3FGs) have led the Panthers, joined in the lineup by sophomore forward Jules Montgomery (6.4 points, 6.0 rebounds), junior center Mayol Riathin (3.8 points), and junior guard Ronald Wright (3.8 points, 3.4 assists).  Prairie View averages 62.6 points while shooting 37% from the field, including 22% on three-point field goals, and 59% at the line -- allowing opponents only 60.2 points.

A Look At Longwood
Longwood is 1-4 after its recent road losses at BYU (92-60, 11.18) and Nevada (80-78, 11.22) during the Chicago Invitational Challenge.  Senior center Antwan Carter (16.4 points, 9.6 rebounds) along with senior guard Jeremiah Bowman (15.0 points, 5.0 assists) have led the Lancers this season, joined in the lineup by senior guard Martiz Washington (10.4 points, 11 3FGs), sophomore guard Tristan Carey (10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds), and senior forward Jan van der Kooij (5.4 points, 4.8 rebounds).  LU averages 76.4 points while shooting 44% from the field, including 36% on three-point field goals, and 56% at the line -- allowing opponents 82.0 points.

A Look At UMKC
UMKC is coached by Matt Brown who is in his fifth year as head coach, including a record of 1-4 this season after its road losses at Bradley (68-58, 11.13) and #11 Wisconsin (77-31, 11.22) during the Chicago Invitational Challenge.  Senior guard Reggie Chamberlain (15.6 points, 11 3FGs) and sophomore forward Trinity Hall (11.4 points, 5.2 rebounds) have led the Kangaroos, joined in the lineup by redshirt sophomore forward-center Kirk Korver (6.2 points), freshman guard Estan Tyler (5.2 points), and junior guard-forward Thomas Staton (3.4 points).  UMKC averages 56.4 points while shooting 36% from the field, including 33% on three-point field goals, and 61% at the line -- allowing opponents 68.6 points.

A Look At Wofford
Wofford is coached by Mike Young who is in his 23rd year with the program and his 10th year as head coach, including a record of 2-2 this season after its recent road win at Bradley (70-66, 11.22) and a road loss at #11 Wisconsin (69-33, 11.19) during the Chicago Invitational Challenge.  Senior guard Kevin Giltner (15.0 points, 9 3FGs) and freshman guard Karl Cochran (11.3 points, 9 3FGs) have led the Terriers, joined in the lineup by senior forward Drew Crowell (9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds), senior guard Brad Loesing (9.0 points), and sophomore forward Domas Rinksalis (4.3 points).  WC averages 55.5 points while shooting 39% from the field, including 28% on three-point field goals, and 62% at the line -- allowing opponents only 63.0 points.
