FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University men's soccer senior Joel Helmick|Springfield (W.T. Woodson) was named the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Tournament Most Valuable Player and the ASC Tournament Outstanding Defensive Player for his play in a pair of tournament matches. He helped the Lancers to the ASC Tournament Championship by posting two outstanding performances, the first a six-save effort in the semifinals against Houston Baptist University, followed by nine saves in the championship match against Adelphi University. Both matches went to a penalty kick shootout, and he stopped a pair of penalty kicks in both contests to help the Lancers to the title. Longwood (11-6-3) earned the championship for the second time in four seasons and posted its best record since 2002.
