RADFORD, Va. – The Longwood University women's tennis team participated in the Radford University Invitational September 24-25 in Radford. Freshman Nicole Parker|Richmond (Mills Godwin) led the Lancer charge with a 2-1 record and finished as runner-up in singles Flight C. Parker also paired with classmate Sarah Moomau|Winchester (John Haneley) for a runners-up placement in doubles Flight C. The women's team will be back in action Friday, October 8 for the three-day Elon Invitational in Elon, North Carolina.
   
Parker earned her two victories against Appalachian State's Amie Cloer, 6-4, 6-1, and RU's Emerald Lauzon, 6-1, 6-4, before dropping the finals match versus Liberty's Annisha Domenech, 6-1, 6-0. With Moomau, the duo first beat the combo of LU's Jessie Boda and RU's Mindy Pierett, 8-1, while following with an identical victory over ASU's Christina Calott and Cloer. The pair was then topped by ASU's Jennifer Ansari and Kim-Lea Dinh, 9-8 (3), in the finals.

Moomau also recorded a 2-1 record in singles play for Flight B1 with victories over RU's Mirna Matic, 6-1, 6-0, and ASU's Dinh, 6-1, 6-2. She lost her opening match against LU's Rebekah Jenkins, 6-4, 7-6?(0).
   
Sophomore Allison Shulman|Richmond (Deep Run) was the only other Lancer to finish with a 2-1 mark in singles action. She competed in Flight B, first losing to LU's Carol Castro, 2-6, 6-2, (4). Shulman then bounced back to take two wins over James Madison's Kristin Nimitz, 6-4, 6-3, and followed that by topping RU's Sara Tegner, 6-3, 1-6, (8). Shulman also went 2-1 in doubles action as she paired with freshman Bethany Law|Ona, W. Va. (Cabell Midland) in Flight B to defeat RU and LU 8-6, though falling to a second LU double, 8-5.
   
Junior Veronika Bohm|Hirschberg, Germany (Ludwig Frank) also competed in singles Flight B where she recorded one win and two losses. ASU's Blakeley Bean handed Bohm her first loss (2-6, 7-6, 6) to which she followed with a victory over Virginia Tech's Megan Conley (6-2, 6-0), before losing to Matic by two 4-6 sets.
   
Senior Zsofia Jakab|Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) and sophomore Hannah Hill|Portsmouth (Western Branch) also had 1-2 showings from Flight A1 and C, respectively. Jakab's win came in her last match against VT's Katie Blow, 5-7, 7-6 (3), (4). Prior to that, she dropped 6-0, 6-3 to RU's Petra Dajevic and 0-6, 6-4, (5) to JMU's Katherine Bulling. Hill followed suit by also winning her final match against JMU's Ida Donner (6-1, 5-7, (6)) after falling to Pierett (7-6 (4), 6-3) and ASU's Heather Prior, 6-2, 7-5.
   
Sophomore Marta Pinyol|Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) went 0-3 in Flight A, falling first to LU's Jordan Jenkins by identical 6-2 tallies. Pinyol then was topped by JMU's Ruxandra Andriescu 6-4, 6-4 and RU's Mia Drobnjak 6-1, 6-0.
   
Law went 1-1 in singles where she beat Tegner 7-5, 6-4 in her first match but allowed JMU's Michelle Nguyen to advance due to an injury. Senior Nasim Moadab|Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights) went 0-2 in singles Flight C1, dropping both rounds she played. Callot beat Moadab in Round 1, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, before Boda topped her in Round 3, 6-0, 6-0.
