NEW MARKET, Va. -- Longwood University women's cross country posted 62 points to finish second among five teams Saturday morning at the JMU Open Cross Country Invitational near Harrisonburg at the New Market Battlefield. The host Dukes took first place with 15 points, while the Lancers were led by junior
Jessica Alley|New Castle (Craig County) with her time of 20:46 over the 5200 meter course for seventh-place individually in the field of 38. Longwood will compete again on September 25 at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg.
Following Alley for Longwood were freshman
Ciara Mading|King George (King George) (21:25, 14th), sophomore
Jenna Sprinkle|Buchanan (James River) (21:38, 15th), senior
Mandy Ford|Powhatan (Powhatan) (22:05, 19th), along with sophomore
Megan Short|Erial, N.J. (Timber Creek) (22:27, 20th). Also running were freshmen Nicole Cunningham-Grandy|Midlothian (James River) (25:08, 30th) and
Emberli McGann|Stuarts Draft (Stuarts Draft) (25:59, 33rd).
Following JMU and Longwood in the team results were Radford (74), Howard (94), and Mountain State (127).
