Take A Kid To The Basketball Game Saturday At 2 p.m.; Longwood Men Hosting Savannah State

February 18, 2010

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Athletics has set this Saturday, February 20, for its annual NCAA® Men's Basketball Take A Kid to the Game® day as the Lancers will host Savannah State University at Willett Hall beginning at 2 p.m.. All area youth ages three to 18 are invited to attend this special event and receive a discounted ticket for $1 with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket. Youth will have the opportunity to experience the college game-day atmosphere and some exciting action on the court between Longwood and the Tigers who defeated the Lancers 68-66 in Georgia January 23. It's also been designated “The Gray Storm” as all fans are encouraged to wear gray attire to the contest on Saturday. Tickets will be available at the Willett Hall Ticket Office or by calling 434.395.2138.

“We are thrilled to invite area youth to our campus and have them help as we cheer on the Lancers to victory,” said Eric Stoller, Longwood's director of marketing and game operations. “It is our hope that adults in the community will bring their children out to experience this collegiate athletic event at Longwood. We're expecting a great crowd to take part in the intense rivalry that has developed in men's basketball between these two schools.”

Longwood is hosting one of more than 700 games that will be played across the nation as part of the Take A Kid to the Game (TAKG) program now in its 13th season. The project is a grass roots initiative that attracts the nation's youth and encourages adults to take kids to area college basketball games. NCAA Basketball® is a national sponsor of the Take A Kid to the Game program.
