HIGH POINT GAME NOTES (PDF)
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University will host High Point University of the Big South Conference in men's basketball action Tuesday night, February 2, at 7 p.m. in Willett Hall (1,807) on-campus in Farmville. The Lancers and Panthers are meeting for the 19th-time overall since 1984, and for the first time since last Feb. 23. Longwood (5-16) is coached by seventh-year head coach
Mike Gillian, and will be led by redshirt-senior
Dana Smith who is averaging 17.4 points and 7.2 rebounds. HPU (11-10) is coached by first-year head coach Scott Cherry and is led by sophomore guard Nick Barbour (18.8 points). It's been designated "Greek Night and "White-Out" as tickets remain and will be available at the Willett Hall Ticket Office or by calling 434.395.2138.
Series History
Longwood and High Point have played 18 times previously in the sport of men's basketball. The Panthers have a 13-5 edge in the series, winning the last three games between the two schools by scores of 81-69 last year in North Carolina, and 68-54 at HPU and 80-68 in Farmville during 2007-08. The Lancers last win came on January 28, 2007 by a score of 69-64 at Willett Hall. Last season, Barbour scored 18 points and senior Eugene Harris had 17 points to lead the High Point victory while Smith scored a game-high 21 points and sophomore
Antwan Carter added 19 points for Longwood.
A Look At High Point
High Point is coached by first-year head coach Scott Cherry. The Panthers of the Big South Conference have a record of 11-10 after their 82-80 overtime road win past Big South opponent Gardner-Webb this past Saturday (1.30). High Point is led by sophomore Nick Barbour (18.8 points) and senior Eugene Harris (14.6 points). Others expected in the lineup are redshirt-senior Cruz Daniels (6.2 points, 5.7 rebounds), junior Tehran Cox (3.9 points), along with redshirt-freshman Corey Law (7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds).

Longwood is 5-16 after its 112-90 home win past Division II Washington Adventist this past Saturday (1.30). The Lancers are led by redshirt-senior
Dana Smith who has averaged 17.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, and sophomore

Greek Night & White-Out
The game has been designated
“Greek Night” for all Longwood sororities and fraternities. The always popular annual promotion for the school's Greek community will feature special contests and prizes throughout the contest, including at halftime. It's also been designated a
“White-Out” with all non-Greek students and fans encouraged to wear white to the contest.
Home Sweet Home
Longwood is 38-20 (.655) at home in Willett Hall over the past four-plus seasons, including a 4-3 mark this year following a 13-2 home record last season. The Lancers were 7-5 during 2007-08, 8-4 during 2005-06, while 6-6 during 2006-07. Longwood is 242-129 (.652) all-time (29-plus seasons) in Willett Hall. The Lancers have averaged 84.6 points during its seven games (4-3) at home this season as opposed to only 63.9 points during the 14 games (1-11 away, 0-2 neutral) played away from Farmville. Additionally, Longwood has averaged an outstanding 1,250 in home attendance during the three games played in Willett Hall (1,807) this season while the students have been on campus. The overall home attendance average through seven games is 802, but should rise toward 1,000 with five remaining home dates with the students on campus.
