MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- Longwood University dropped a 96-65 men's basketball decision on the road Saturday afternoon at Marquette University of the Big East Conference at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles (6-2) led 50-27 at halftime en route to their home victory while getting a career-high and game-high 19 points from Chris Otule and 14 points from Darius Johnson-Odom. Antwan Carter|St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg) added 14 points before fouling out with 7:40 remaining. Longwood will take a week off for fall semester examinations before returning to action next Saturday, Dec. 11, at Big South Conference member and in-state opponent VMI in Lexington with tip-off for scheduled for 1 p.m.

Marquette, however, responded with 15 unanswered points to lead 17-4 at 14:30 as six different players scored points, including five off the bench from Jae Crowder. The Lancers, though, had a response of their own and battled back to within 21-17 at 10:08 with a 13-4 run sparked by a trio of three-point field goals, including two by Washington. The Golden Eagles once-again answered, this time with a 27-4 run to lead 48-21 at 1:11 en route to leading 50-27 at the intermission.
Longwood was within 54-33 early in the second half at 19:27 after three-straight baskets by Carter to open the period. It was as close as the Lancers would get, however, as Marquette extended the advantage to 61-33 at 16:35 on a three-point play from Crowder. LU was no closer than 25 after that, the last time at 63-38 with 14:52 on the clock following another jumper from Carter who fouled out with 7:40 left to play. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 34 points at 82-48 with 6:44 remaining with the starters all off the floor by 3:05 toward the final margin.
Washington led Longwood with his 15 points, including 5-8 three-pointers in just 17 minutes off the bench. Carter had 15 points and five rebounds for the Lancers. Redshirt-junior

Jeremiah Bowman|Washington, D.C. (Harcum JC) added a career-high and game-high seven assists, while van der Kooij had a career-high five assists. LU shot 36.5% (23-63) from the field, including 34.5% (10-29) on three-pointers, and 75% (9-12) at the free throw line.
Otule led Marquette with his career-high and game-high 19 points (9-9 FG) in only 19 minutes. Johnson-Odom had 14 points for the Golden Eagles. Vander Blue added 12 points off the bench, Dwight Buycks had 10 points, and Crowder finished with 10 points off the bench. MU shot 54.3% (38-70) from the field, including 21.4% (3-14) on three-pointers, and 77.3% (17-22) at the line. The hosts converted 18 Longwood turnovers into 20 points, and had a 58-16 advantage in points scored in the paint.
It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in the sport of men's basketball.
