LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Longwood University women's cross country posted 1,143 points to finish 37th among 37 teams Saturday at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Louisville and ran at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Kentucky. The University of Virginia took first place with 65 points, and North Carolina State University's Laura Hoer (19:54) was the individual winner, while the Lancers were led by junior
Jessica Alley|New Castle (Craig County) with her time of 24:03 over the 6K course for 205th-place individually in the field of 253. Longwood will now conclude its 2010 campaign on Saturday, November 20, at the prestigious ECAC Championships in the Bronx, New York.
Following Alley for Longwood were sophomores
Megan Short|Erial, N.J. (Timber Creek) (24:36, 226th) and
Jenna Sprinkle|Buchanan (James River) (24:54, 233rd), freshman
Ciara Mading|King George (King George) (25:29, 241st), along with freshman Nicole Cunningham-Grandy|Midlothian (James River) (28:21, 252nd). Also running was freshman
Emberli McGann|Stuarts Draft (Stuarts Draft) (29:04, 253rd). Short, Sprinkle, Cunningham-Grandy, and McGann each ran new collegiate-best times for the 6K distance.
"I am very pleased with the overall individual performances as most had season-bests and ran better than last year," said head coach
Catherine Hanson. "We have had a very hilly training regime this year and I'm excited for us to race at the Van Cortlandt course next week with the traditional 8K and 5K distances. Overall the season has been a very successful one in as far as team and individual performances go."
