HAMILTON, N.Y. – Longwood University dropped a 95-80 men's basketball road decision at Colgate University of the Patriot League Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, New York. The Lancers (3-12) were led by redshirt-senior
Dana Smith/Woodbridge (C.D. Hylton) with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season. The Raiders (2-10) were led by Kyle Roemer with a game-high and career-high 38 points. Longwood will play again on Tuesday night, January 5, on the road at the University of South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in Columbia, South Carolina beginning at 7 p.m.; it will be televised on Fox Sports South TV.
Longwood led 9-6 at 17:57 after Smith made the first of his three first-half three-point field goals, and it was tied at 16-16 with 13:27 on the clock when Smith made a jumper. Colgate took a 27-21 lead at 10:24 following five quick points from Ben Jonson, including a three-pointer. Smith's third three-pointer of the half gave the visitors their last lead of the game at 34-32 with 6:34 left until the break. A 14-4 run by the Raiders made it 46-38 at 2:20 as Roemer scored five quick points, and Jonson's buzzer-beating three-pointer made it 51-43 at the intermission.
Colgate increased its advantage to 64-47 at 14:13 as Roemer scored nine of 13 points before Longwood scored eight unanswered points, including consecutive three-pointers by senior
Kevin Swecker/Manchester, Md. (Mount Saint Joseph), to close to within 64-55 at 13:00. The Raiders quickly extended the margin again, this time to 76-61 at 8:49 behind five more points from Roemer. The Lancers were no closer than 13 points on three occasions the rest of the way, the last time at 88-75 with 2:39 remaining on a three-pointer from junior

Antwan Carter/St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg) each scored 15 points for the Lancers, the latter's effort off the bench. LU shot 49% (32-65) from the field, including 39% (9-23) on three-pointers, and 44% (7-16) at the free throw line.
Roemer led Colgate with his game-high and career-high 38 points, including 22 points in the first half. Jonson had a career-high 23 points for the Raiders, including 17 points in the first half, and Yaw Gyawu added 18 points. CU shot a season-best 57% (34-60) from the field, including 39% (7-18) on three-pointers, and 83% (20-24) at the line. Colgate evened the series between the two schools at 1-1, scoring its most points in five years since early in the 2004-05 season. The Raiders had entered the contest averaging 60.9 points, including a previous season-best of 67 points.
