WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University women's cross country totaled 176 points to finish seventh among eight teams Saturday at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge hosted by the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. The University of Toledo took first place with 23 points, while Toledo's Ari Fisher won the individual 6K race in 21:04. The Lancers were just one point out of sixth place and will compete again on Friday, October 2, at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina beginning at 3:30 p.m..
At William and Mary, Longwood was led by junior
Natalie Auble/Fairfax (Fairfax) who finished 39th among the 82 runners who finished the course with her time of 23:55. Auble was followed by sophomore
Jessica Alley/New Castle (Craig County) (24:16, 45th), along with seniors
Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) (24:32, 49th),
Melinda Lackore/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (24:36, 50th), and
Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (25:10, 63rd). Also running were freshmen
Megan Short/Erial, N.J. (Timber Creek)?(25:13, 65th),
Jenna Sprinkle/Buchanan (James River) (25:30, 67th), and
Alisha Royal/Vinton (William Byrd) (26:00, 70th), as well as junior
Lauren Kuhns/Fredericksburg (Riverbend) (27:20, 76th).
