FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team took a 72-55 decision past visiting Campbell University on Tuesday night in Willett Hall on campus in Farmville. Junior
Krystal Garrison/Fredericksburg (Courtland) tied her career-high with 18 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Campbell's Ashley Williamson also had a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead the Camels. The Lancers had 15 steals, the most since December 15, 2007, when they had 18 steals against Gardner-Webb. Longwood (3-8) returns to action on Friday, December 18, when it faces High Point University in High Point, North Carolina, at 7 p.m..
The first half was tightly contested with the score tied five times and three lead changes. Neither team could pull ahead by more than five points in the opening frame. Campbell jumped out to an early 4-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game. Sophomore
Morgan Smith/Williamsport, Md. (Williamsport) nailed a three-pointer to pull the Lancers within one at 4-3. The teams traded baskets until Geami Britt hit a three-pointer to give Campbell (4-3) an 18-14 lead with 8:31 remaining in the half. Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) scored the last four points of the half for Longwood as the Lancers took a 33-28 lead into halftime.
The Lancers came out firing to start the second half as they went on a 5-0 run to start the half. Freshman
Heather Tobeck/La Porte, Texas (La Porte) hit a jumper and Garrison converted a conventional three-point play during the span that gave Longwood the 38-28 lead with 19:01 remaining. The Camels clawed their way back, going on a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to cut the Longwood lead to 42-41 with 13:59 remaining. A steal and layup by freshman
Erin Neal/Durham, N.C. (Hillside) gave Longwood the 45-41 lead with 13:06 left in the game. A pair of free throws by Monique Spry cut the lead to 45-43 before Longwood went on a 14-4 run over the next five minutes until Campbell took a timeout with 7:09 remaining and Longwood holding the 59-47 lead. Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) made one and Garrison made a pair to push Longwood's lead to 62-47. The Camels cut in to the lead but Garrison drained her third three-pointer of the evening and made another layup to push the Lancers' lead to 68-53.

Becky Fernandes/Fort Belvoir (Bishop Ireton), and turned the ball over 16 times, the third-fewest turnovers this season. Longwood shot 38.5% (25-65) from the field and 27.8% (5-18) from three. They converted on 60.7% (17-28) of their foul shots. The Lancers outrebounded the Camels 46-42.
Lauren Yesh scored 10 points with five rebounds for Campbell. The Camels shot 33.3% (19-57) from the floor and went 1-10 from three. They shot 61.5% (16-26) from the foul line.
