Longwood To End Regular Season With Pair Of Home Matches

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's soccer team will wrap up the 2009 regular season with a pair of home matches, the first against Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) foe Houston Baptist University on Sunday, November 1, at 12 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. The Lancers will host Clemson University of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday, November 3, at 4 p.m. at the Athletics Complex for Senior Day. Admission is free to both matches.

Longwood (4-10-2, 1-2-0 ASC) will face Houston Baptist (6-8-0, 2-0 ASC) on Sunday in its final ASC regular season match. The Lancers fell to HBU 3-0 in the regular season last year and tied the Huskies 1-1 and advanced on penalty kicks (4-2) in the ASC Tournament. Houston Baptist is led by Duke Ogega with two goals and two assists. Francisco Diaz and Dan Dwyer each have two goals for the Huskies. Sunday is Longwood Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.

On Tuesday the Lancers will face Clemson (3-10-1, 1-5 ACC) at 4 p.m. and will recognize the team's seniors. The Tigers defeated the eleventh-ranked University of Virginia 1-0 on September 26.­ Clemson is led by Nathan Thornton who has scored five goals with one assist. Austin Savage has added four goals while Tommy Drake has three goals and three assists.

Longwood is led this season by junior Harvey Headley/Coventry, England (Stoke Park) who has six goals and one assist while senior Brian Germain/McLean (Langley) has added three goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Joel Helmick/Springfield (W.T. Woodson) has has 44 saves (.647 save pct.) and has given up 1.72 goals per game.
