ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Longwood University had to settle for a 1-1 double-overtime women's soccer tie on the road at South Carolina State University of the Great West Conference Friday night in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Lancers are now 8-6-1 this season, while the Bulldogs are 8-5-1. Longwood will play again on Sunday afternoon, October 18, remaining on the road at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina beginning at 2 p.m..

Longwood and South Carolina State were deadlocked 0-0 at the intermission and through much of the second period as well before senior Michelle DeSieno/Centreville (Chantilly) intercepted a pass back and dribbled by the keeper for her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 79:12. The Bulldogs, however, matched the score just over two minutes later at 81:29 on a set-piece goal by Janine Francois, assisted by Brooke Ehinger to send the contest to extra periods. It remained 1-1 through both 10-minute overtime sessions.

“South Carolina State had good fans, good players, and a good game plan,” said 16th-year head coach Todd Dyer '93. “Unfortunately for us, their facility is by far the smallest field we play on … just no room to play at all and not a lot of soccer was played tonight.”

South Carolina State took a 23-14 advantage in shots, though just 9-8 in attempts on-goal, while the Lancers had a 3-2 edge on corner kicks.  Redshirt-junior keeper Marcia Biddle/Woodbridge (Gar-Field) played the entire match in front of the net for Longwood with eight saves.  Danielle Murphy (45:00, 2 saves) and Mariah Hebbe (65:00, 5 saves) split time for the Bulldogs.
