Siner’s Early Tally Stands as Longwood Tops Charleston Southern, 1-0

Lancers win second straight in sixth clean sheet of season

FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior defender Remi Siner scored in the 16th minute and the Longwood women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory over Charleston Southern in Big South action on Saturday at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

Siner's fourth career goal and first game winner, which followed a two-assist performance in Wednesday's 5-0 win at Winthrop, came at the 15:44 mark off of a corner kick.

Senior Coryn Silberstein played an in-swinging ball to the head of junior Taylor Hoag, who then found Siner. Her header beat Charleston Southern goalkeeper MacKenzie Marotz to the far post.

"That result is more satisfying because we had to beat a really good CSU team to earn it," Longwood head coach Todd Dyer said. "I liked our pressure and soccer in the first half, but they still gave us some problems in the middle and attacking thirds. We made some adjustments at halftime that made us a little more secure defensively, but we didn't control possession and the game as much as we would've liked to. In the end, we earned another shutout and won a very tight game."

The Lancers took five shots in the opening half and carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime. Charleston Southern (2-9-0, 1-3-0) generated six second-half shots but couldn't find the equalizer.

Longwood freshman goalkeeper Brynn Clagett made two saves to record her fourth shutout of the season, controlling her area well, while snagging several critical balls out of the air in the closing minutes.

CSU's Marotz made four saves to keep the Buccaneers in the match.

Longwood finished with a 13-11 edge in shots and both teams had seven corner kicks. The Lancers put five shots on goal, while Charleston Southern managed two.

Longwood (5-6-2, 2-2-0) secured its second straight league victory with the win. The win also continued Longwood's recent success against Charleston Southern. The Lancers had won the previous three meetings, including a 2-0 victory in the first round of the 2025 Big South tournament.

Longwood returns to action next Saturday, traveling to UNC Asheville for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
