Longwood Falls At #24 Virginia 6-0

Junior Robbie Bailey Finishes 1-4 At The Plate Against Nationally-Ranked #24 Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 6-0 baseball decision on the road at the University of Virginia Tuesday night in Charlottesville. The Lancers are now 18-13 this season, while the Cavaliers of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), ranked #24 in the latest USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll, are now 25-9. Longwood will play again on Wednesday evening, April 9, hosting VMI of the Big South Conference at Lancer Stadium in Farmville at 6 p.m..

At nationally-ranked UVA, Longwood allowed single runs in both the first and third innings before the host Cavaliers added two more runs in the both the seventh and eighth innings. Virginia was led by lead-off hitter Greg Miclat (4-5, RBI) with four hits, an RBI, and two stolen bases. David Coleman (2-4) and Jarrett Parker (2-3) each two hits for the Cavaliers, while David Adams (1-3, 3 RBI) contributed one hit and three RBI. Jake Cowan (2-0) had the pitching win with the first 6.0 innings on the mound, scattering five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Longwood was led by sophomore Topher Ellis/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (2-3) with two hits, while senior Nick von Gersdorff/Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (1-4), junior Robbie Bailey/Mechanicsville (Hanover) (1-4), and sophomore Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (1-3) each had one hit. Senior John Farrell/Nantucket, Mass. (Nantucket) (2-3) took the pitching loss for the Lancers with the first 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks.

It was just the second time this season in 31 games that Longwood did not score at least one run. Virginia now leads the all-time series between the two schools at 10-2 as the Lancers and Cavaliers first played in 1980.
