BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Longwood University men's soccer team defeated Atlantic Soccer Conference member Howard 4-2 on Wednesday night to improve to 2-1 in the ASC. The Lancers also improve to 7-7-3 on the season, while Howard falls to 1-14-1 on the season. The Lancers received two goals from senior Braden McPherson/Virginia Beach (Kellam), while junior Martin Vickerton/Derbyshire, England (Kirk Hallam Technical College) recorded one goal and two assists. Longwood returns to the field on Sunday, November 9 at 1 p.m. to face conference opponent Houston Baptist in Houston, Texas.

The Lancers started the scoring in the 13th minute with McPherson's first goal of the game. The 5-9 midfielder created his own chance taking the ball down the right side and finding net. McPherson added his second goal four minutes later, this time with help from Vickerton. The goal happened after Vickerton collected the ball in the midfield and found a wide open McPherson, who then fired a shot from 20-yards out. Howard earned one goal back right before the end of the first half of action, sneaking one in at the 42:48 mark.

Freshman Bojan Mijatovic/St. Pertersburg, Fla. (North East) put the Lancers up 3-1 in the 57th minute after scoring his first goal of the season. Vickerton was once again involved in the dish that led to the goal, taking a corner kick that found Mijatovic 10-yards out of goal.

Vickerton would go on to add his own goal two minutes later scoring on a Lancers' free kick. Longwood almost ended the game up 4-1, but Howard managed to get one more goal in the 79th minute.

Despite dropping the game, Howard ended with a 13-11 advantage in shots, while the Lancers had six corner kicks to Howards' zero.
