FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team fell to Atlantic 10 Conference member Richmond 72-47 on Tuesday night in Willett Hall. The Lancers fall to 2-3 on the season, while Richmond continues its unbeaten streak to improve to 4-0. Freshman
Brittanni Billups/Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) was tied for a game-high 15 points and game-high five rebounds. Longwood heads on the road for its next contest, facing BIG EAST conference member Syracuse in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday, November 30. Tip-Off is set for 1 p.m.
The Lancers fell behind early when the Spiders went on a 14-2 run in the first five minutes of the game. Longwood was able to cut the Richmond lead to four with a little over four minutes remaining in the first half, but would not be able to pull any closer.
The second half belonged to the Spiders who continued to knock down baskets, jumping out to a 26 point lead at one point in the game.
Billups had a career night for the Lancers, ending with a game-high 15 points and five rebounds. Freshman
Brooke Long/Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Junior
Becky Fernandes/Fort Belvoir (Bishop Ireton) had nine points for the Lancers. Brittani Shells of Richmond had 15 points for the Spiders, while Crystal Goring and Johanna McKnight each pulled down five rebounds.
