COMPLETE RESULTS
CENTREVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University women's cross country totaled 373 points to finish 13th among 16 teams Saturday at the Mason Invitational hosted by George Mason University at Bull Run State Park in Centreville. The University of Virginia won the event with its 30 points, while the Cavaliers' Lauretta Dezubay won the individual 6K race with her time of 21:29. The Lancers will compete again on Friday, October 17, at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
In Centreville, Longwood was led by junior
Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) with her time of 24:33 to place 63rd among the 141 runners. Chantry was followed by classmate
Melinda Lackore/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (24:42, 70th), junior
Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (24:53, 73rd), along with sophomores
Paula Roberson/Richmond (Hermitage)?(26:13, 113th) and
Lauren Kuhns/Fredericksburg (Riverbend) (27:43, 129th). Chantry (0:30), Lackore (1:02), Bland (0:50), Roberson (2:42), and Kuhns (0:38) each ran new season-best times for the 6K distance, while the times were career-bests for Lackore, Bland, and Roberson as well.
"I am very pleased with the progress of the team today," said second-year head coach
Catherine Hanson. "They demonstrated strength from the volume we have done in training. We will turn training up these next few weeks as we prepare for our ECAC Championships on November 22, which we use as our 'conference' championship."
