Longwood junior forward Edel Nyland broke Longwood’s Division I record with four goals in the 6-2 win over Saint Louis Sunday to propel the Lancers to their first 2-0 start of the Division I era. Nyland had a hat trick within the first 17 minutes of the game and iced the win with her fourth score in the 60th minute. Two of those goals were unassisted and the Lancers routed the Billikens fewer than 48 hours after opening the season with a 2-0 win against Towson Friday.

For the weekend, Nyland accounted for half of Longwood’s eight goals in the back-to-back season-opening wins. The Tipperary, Ireland, native and two-time All-MAC selection hammered 17 shots across the two games, eight of which were on target. Her four goals put her within two scores of matching the career-high six she scored as a sophomore in 2015.
