Baseball sophomore Sammy Miller led the Lancers to a perfect 5-0 week after hitting .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, eight runs scored, three RBI, five stolen bases and a .625 on base percentage. He logged a pair of multi-hit games, including a career-best 4-for-5 performance in game one of a three-game series sweep against Fairleigh Dickinson.
The 5-11, 175-pound outfielder reached base safely and crossed the plate in all five games, helping the Lancers take down VCU (10-9) and VMI (5-2) in midweek action and Fairleigh Dickinson in a three-game weekend sweep by scores of 4-3, 6-3 and 5-3. He scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth Sunday to complete Longwood's first series sweep since the 2013 season.
Miller has emerged as Longwood's top table-setter, batting .351 while starting all 11 games and batting leadoff in eight of those. He owns a .479 on base percentage on the strength of 10 walks compared to just eight strikeouts. The Shrewsbury, Pa., native is 6-for-7 stealing bases on the year and swiped four of those bags in the Fairleigh Dickinson series.
