Men's basketball senior Leron Fisher averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in road games at Maine and Columbia last week and led the Lancers to a dramatic 70-69 win at Columbia Saturday. Making his first two starts of the season at point guard in place of injured starter Tra'Vaughn White, the 5-11, 160-pound Fisher scored in double figures in both games, including an 18-point, eight-assist effort on the road at Columbia.
Against the Lions, Fisher hit 5-of-10 shots from the field and put together a second half that included nine points, five assists and just one turnover as the Lancers rallied from a seven-point deficit to take the lead with six seconds left on a layup by freshman Chris Shields. Fisher fed Shields the pass that led to the game-winner after Columbia took a 69-68 lead with 17 seconds left to play.
Through four games this season, Fisher is averaging 14.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. He is shooting .793 (23-of-29) from the free throw line and has scored in double figures three times with two games of at least eight assists.
