FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University sophomore women's soccer standout Katie Beebe/Round Hill has been named the Longwood Female Athlete of the Week.  The second-year starting defender posted her first collegiate assist during a 4-0 road win at UNC Asheville on October 26th, aiding on the game-winning goal scored by junior Kelsey McDonald in the 24th minute against the Bulldogs.  Katie has started 15 of 18 matches and is sixth on the team in minutes (1418), while helping the defense to eight shutouts overall, including six against Big South opponents.

Question and Answer Session with Katie Beebe and Ashley Robbins

AR: How has the defensive line been so successful this season, combining for eight shutouts so far?
KB: I think the five of us work really well together. We give each other coverage. I think we’ve really bonded so it’s easy. We help make it easier for the midfielders and forwards do their jobs by being solid back there.

AR: Talk about recording your first career assist against Asheville?
KB: It was kind of funny because it was off a free kick. I just passed it to [Kelsey McDonald] and she was trying to cross it, but it went in the goal. It was cool to get my first assist.

AR: What does it mean to get to host a Big South Quarterfinal game for the second year?
KB: I think it will help us. Last year, it was really crazy when we played Liberty in the first round because we went into PKs. I think being at home and having all of our support will be a huge advantage.

AR: What is the team’s strategy heading into the tournament?
KB: We are just going to keep doing what we’ve been doing. It’s been working most of the season!

AR: Why did you end up choosing Longwood?
KB: When I came here, I really liked Coach Dyer and the rest of the staff. I like the school because it’s not huge, but it’s still a really good program. It wasn’t overwhelming.

AR: If you could change places with one teammate, who would it be?
KB: I would switch with Kelsey McDonald. She’s crazy and just herself all the time. I think it would be cool to be her, to be weird and funny all the time. Everyone loves her, so I think that would be cool.

AR: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
KB: Meghan (Magee) and I have a handshake that we do at the beginning of each half.

AR: What’s the best part about being a Division I athlete?
KB: It helps build your character. Coming to college is a lot different than high school, so I think being an athlete sets you on a routine and makes you more responsible. If you come here as a regular student without set rules or a schedule, I think it would be a harder transition to get yourself motivated to do everything on your own.

AR: Who is your role model?
KB: My dad. He put himself through school and made himself a good living. He’s someone I really look up to

AR: Favorite movie?
KB: “Shooter” with Mark Walberg.

AR: Favorite band?
KB: I don’t have a favorite band, but I like country music.

AR: Favorite food?
KB: Mashed potatoes.
