FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University junior baseball standout Scott Burkett/Williamsburg is this week’s Longwood Male Athlete of the Week. The third-year catcher helped the Lancers win four of five home games last week, hitting .471 with one home run, one double, five RBI, eight runs and four walks during wins past Temple (9-6), Norfolk State (17-4) and UNC Asheville (7-4, 8-3). Burkett was 2-3 with a three-run home run against Asheville in the program’s first-ever Big South Conference game, two days after going 2-3 with a double, RBI and four runs against Norfolk State. He was 2-4 with two runs against Temple, and collected hits in each of the other two games against Asheville last weekend. Burkett also pitched a scoreless ninth inning against Norfolk State. Prior to a road game at the College of William and Mary on March 20, he was hitting .311 with one homer, two doubles, nine RBI, 14 runs, a .393 slugging percentage and a .394 on base percentage while perfect in the field through 105 chances (93 putouts, 12 assists).
