Question and Answer Session with Lucas Woodhouse and Ashley Robbins

AR: What is it like to have played every game so far as a freshman?
LW: It’s been a good experience so far. I mean, I wish we could have been doing better, but I’m learning something new every day and I’m getting used a different style of play coming from high school. It’s been a tough transition, but as the season has gone on it’s progressed.

AR: Do you find yourself getting advice from the older people on the team?
LW: At the beginning and before the season I asked a lot of questions and they told me to stay calm, play your game and be confident. So I did go to a lot of them before the season. They helped me a lot.

AR: You currently lead the team in assists, have you always been a playmaker?
LW: I guess it is one of my fortes, getting people the ball. I’ve never really been that much of a scorer. I just try to get everybody involved and get the ball in the right position to score.

AR: Your first double-double was at Radford. Talk a little bit about that game.
LW: Well Nik (Brown) got hurt so they just came to me off the bench and things just started to click. It was all about confidence. it’s been a thing for me just to gain confidence and each game I think I’m getting more and more. I just went in the game and tried to do what I could do and ended up getting a double-double.

AR: What is your favorite thing about Longwood basketball so far?
LW: I think it’s the relationships with my teammates. Everybody gets along and it’s fun. We have a good brotherhood bond with each other.

AR: Do you have any role models?
LW: My favorite players are probably Steve Nash and Rajon Rondo. I like how they play the game. They’re smart basketball players.

AR: Any role models outside of basketball?
LW: My high school coach. I keep in touch with him and talk to him every day pretty much. We talk a lot and he has always been there for me when I need to talk about basketball and life.

AR: What would be a piece of advice you would give to a young player?
LW: Work hard every day and go for your goals.

AR: Why did you choose Longwood?
LW: I chose to come here because I like the south. I have family in Myrtle Beach. I always liked the south and I came here to visit and I really liked the small campus and tight knit community. Also, I had a good relationship with the coaching staff.

AR: What is your favorite place on campus?
LW: Willett (Hall) or the Rec Center.

AR: What’s the coolest road trip you’ve been on so far?
LW: Las Vegas. I’ve never been there so it was a good experience to go out west and visit the Vegas strip and go shopping.

AR: How are you handling the balance between athletics and academics?
LW: That’s definitely been the hardest thing for me. In the beginning I was struggling a lot, now it’s just all about time management.

AR: What are you majoring in?
LW: I’m undecided right now, but I think I want to go into marketing and business.

AR: Any idea what you want to do after graduation?
LW: Maybe just work for a big time athletic company. Gear and clothes interest me.

AR: What’s your favorite professional team?
LW: Probably the New York Knicks because I’m from New York.
