Sarah Butler

A former three-time All-Big South midfielder at Longwood, Butler returns as an assistant coach after graduating in May 2016 and spending the fall season as a graduate assistant. She was an All-Big South first team honoree three consecutive seasons from 2014 through 2016, Longwood’s first three-time All-Big South selection in program history.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, and a member of the New Zealand National Women’s Lacrosse Team, Butler was a four-year starter in the midfield for the blue and white and finished her career in the top five on several Longwood leaderboards. She concluded her standout career with 219 points and 80 assists, both in the top five on Longwood’s all-time lists, and cracked the top five in single season points (87) and assists (38) as a senior.

During her four seasons as a Lancer, Butler played in all 73 games and scored 139 goals, four of which were game-winners. She added 96 career ground balls, 35 forced turnovers and won 178 draw controls.
In those four seasons, Longwood went 18-11 in Big South Conference play and made an appearance in the Big South Championships semifinals in 2014.

Butler was also selected Longwood’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2016 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in exercise science this past May.
