Elijah Cuffee was hired as the Director of Sports Performance at Longwood in May. He begins his firs season with the Lancers in 2026-27.

Cuffee comes to the Lancers from UNCW where he joined the UNCW staff as Assistant Director of Sports Performance in June 2023. He worked with the men’s basketball beach volleyball, women’s soccer and men’s tennis teams with the Seahawks. 

Cuffee will oversee the men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf teams at Longwood.

“I am excited to welcome Elijah to Longwood as our new Director of Sports Performance," Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Hall said. "He is ready for this opportunity and has a wide array of experience that will undoubtedly help our student-athletes reach their goals.”

Originally from Poca, W.Va., Cuffee played four years of men's basketball at Liberty, and helped the program to a record of 104-32, including a 30-4 season in his junior year. Cuffee finished his career in 2021 as the all-time wins leader for the Flames. He Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team all-conference selection as a senior in 2020-21.

Cuffee earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness in 2020. Cuffee then assisted with the Liberty Performance staff as a graduate assistant coach and earned his Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness.

Cuffee holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). 

Cuffee developed his coaching philosophies under the supervision of Henry Barrera (Alabama) and Robb Hornett (Liberty).
