Sean Pierce joined the men's soccer staff prior to the fall of 2021 and brings experience across multiple levels as a coach.
In Pierce’s first season at Longwood, the men's soccer team tied their best finish in Big South History when they placed third in the regular season. The team had a trio of All-Big South selections in Markus Gronli (All-Big South First Team), Ander Etxaniz (All-Big South Second Team) and Jonas Kalchner (All-Big South Honorable Mention).
The Lancers battled a large number of injuries in his second year, but the team still showed resilience and flashes of brilliance to earn points in a hard fought season.
Pierce also coaches within the USL system. He is the current head coach of USL2 side Brazos Valley Calvary FC out of Bryan/College Station Texas. Pierce took the side who finished last the prior year to a title winning season in the lone star division this summer holding a record of 11-2-1. Pierce also made history this past summer as the youngest USL League Two head coach in the league’s 27 year history.
Pierce comes to Longwood following work in the spring at the previous NAIA champion Wayland Baptist University. Prior to Wayland Baptist, Pierce worked as the associate head club coach for men’s soccer at Grand Canyon. While there, he helped guide the program to an unbeaten conference season as well as its first trip to the national tournament.
While coaching at Grand Canyon he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management from Grand Canyon in 2019.
