Head Coach Catherine Hanson: “As a non-scholarship runner from a very small program in Goochland, Stephen had big dreams of being a top notch Division I runner.  From day one, he has set out to fulfill his mission.  He is one of those young men whose potential will just begin to be tapped with good training.  Stephen is probably one of the most coachable, determined young men I will coach.  His permanent smile on his face is not to be misinterpreted as passive caring.  He will be top-five.”

2011: First-year team member … High School: Participated in cross country, outdoor track, and football at Goochland … All-District, Regional Qualifier, and Most Valuable Runner as a junior and senior … Bulldog Award and qualifier to State Cross Country Championships as a freshman … All-District and Regional Qualifier in outdoor track as a sophomore and senior … Most Valuable Distance runner in outdoor track as a junior and senior … holds GHS outdoor track records for two-mile (10:14), three-mile (16:58), and 4x800m relay (8:29.9) … Coach’s Award in (JV) football as an eighth-grader … Personal: Son of Alicia Batkins and Chris Ferguson … worked as a YMCA Lifeguard during summer 2011 … Academics: Physical education major.
