Head Coach Catherine Hanson: “A second-year returnee for Longwood, D.J. has been working very hard at rehab from injury, and cross training will instill a desire to come out strong.  I look forward to the opportunity to see what he is capable of contributing this season.  D.J.'s maturity and understanding of kinesiology puts him in great command of what he is doing to get healthy.”

2011: First-year team member … High School: Participated in cross country, cheerleading, and outdoor track at Arcadia … District Champion as a junior and senior, runner-up as a sophomore … three-time qualifier to State Cross Country Championships … four-time All-District in outdoor track … three-time qualifier to State Track Meet … two-time team MVP, and two-time Most Improved in outdoor track … two-time All-Region and All-District, and State Qualifier in cheerleading … team MVP as a senior in cheerleading … Personal: Son of Monica Brown and Bryant Planter … worked at a restaurant on Chincoteague Island during summer 2011 … Academics: Communication studies major, with a concentration in public relations, and a minor in psychology … first recipient of the Bobby O'Neal Ballard Scholarship (2010) … two-time recipient of the McGrath-Lewis Eastern Shore Scholarship (2010, 2011) … recipient of the Jimmy Yarbrough Scholarship (2010).
