Edward Becker, a member of the men's tennis team, received the Yarborough Award based on his leadership skills and spirit for Longwood.  Being thousands of miles from home in Australia, Becker has only had himself to rely on and shows maturity far beyond his years in doing so.  He strives to make the most of his opportunity at Longwood and sets a great example for those around him.  According to his coaching staff, Becker is the ultimate team player who embraces all aspects of what is needed to win and constantly strives to make those around him better, as coaches from opposing teams have even commented on his outlook and positive spirit.  His reliability and integrity continue off the court, leading to his receipt of the Male Academic PRIDE Award.  With a 3.68 cumulative GPA, Becker has not been required to attend study hall since the first semester of his freshman year, but has continually requested to take part in the structured activity in order to take advantage of the aid the department's academic staff can provide.  He is touted as one of the most responsible and dedicated student athletes by his supervisors, who say he takes pride in doing well in the classroom and is a role model to his peers.  Edward is the son of Caroline and David Becker.

Junior Bethany Law/Ona, West Virginia, a member of the women's tennis team, has been named the recipient of the Female Academic PRIDE Award.  Law constantly demonstrates her dedication to academics and perseverance everyday.  Always sure to bring her schoolwork on road trips, she keeps everything under control and positively influences her teammates.  Despite being injured for the latter part of the 2013 season, Law continued to show up to practice and matches to support her teammates, all the while bringing her schoolwork along to stay on top of her academics.  Involved in many groups and activities on campus, as well, she is president of the National Society of Success and Leadership and vice president of the Coke-Cole College Student Advisory Board.  Law is a SAAC member, Joan of Arc Shield recipient and a member of the Pre-Health Professional Club at Longwood.  Bethany is the daughter of Cheryl and Dean Law.

Freshmen Amelia McConnell/Carlisle, Pennsylvania of the women's soccer team and Bharani Sankar/Glen Allen of the men's tennis team are recipients of the Lancer Outstanding Service Awards.  The duo is currently working on an independent project to help save the local chapter of the Boys' and Girls' Club.  McConnell and Sankar found out the club that helps local children was scheduled to close due to bankruptcy and took the initiative to do something about it.  The student-athletes, who took it upon themselves to compile statistics on the low graduation rates in Prince Edward County, approached Longwood Athletics staff members about what they could do to resolve the situation.  Sankar and McConnell are currently in the stages of speaking with Longwood officials and the Boys' and Girls' Club to come up with a solution.  These two individuals are truly leading by example by taking the initiative to undertake such an ambitious project.  McConnell is also involved in other service projects, such as Wounded Warrior and Heaven Bound.  Amelia is the daughter of Kathryn and G. Scott McConnell.  Bharani is the son of Brinda Shankar and Sankar Ramachandran.

Bill Reinson, who received the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Coach of the Year Award, was unable to attend due to his attendance at the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro Banquet, where he received the newspaper's Virginia Women's Basketball Coach of the Year award.  He led the Lancers to a 14-19 overall record while advancing to the final of the Big South Conference Championship during the program's first year in the Big South.

Dr. Jake Milne, an assistant professor of sociology at Longwood, received the SAAC 2013 A.C.E.S. Award. A.C.E.S., which stands for Acclaimed Commitment to the Excellence of Student-Athletes.  It was presented for his active efforts to enhance student-athlete welfare and excellence.  According to SAAC representatives, he was chosen for the award due to his consistent demonstration of pride and love for Longwood Athletics, not only out on the field, but in the classroom, as well.

Jennie Hardy, former transportation services coordinator, was the recipient of the Special Recognition Award for going above and beyond the call of duty to help the department.  Hardy, who recently retired after serving 30+ years at Longwood, was commended for taking care of all of the department's travel needs, whether for recruiting or team travel.  She helped countless teams, coaches and staff with the procuring of mini buses and/or state vehicles.  Whether it was months in advance or at the last minute, Hardy was known as a real problem solver and a friend to the department.

Cormier Awards for Academic Excellence went to the Men's Golf and Women's Tennis teams for the highest cumulative team GPA, respectively, during the Spring 2012 and Fall 2012 semesters.

The featured speaker was Mary Milne '83, Vice President of Operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League.  She welcomed the student-athletes and spoke on perseverance and making the most of all opportunities in life.  Milne played both field hockey and women's lacrosse while a student-athlete at Longwood.
