1. 3 C’s of Leadership
a. Competence – Do you know your job or are you striving hard to learn it?
i. Are you studying, are you willing to fail, are you working hard
b. Courage – Will you make the hard but right decision, even if it costs you personally?
i. Do you have enough courage to confront people when they are wrong
c. Compassion – Do you care as much about us as you do yourself?
i. Compassion can be misunderstood, but it is impossible to be an extraordinary leader without genuine love for your people.
2. 4 Aspects of compassion/love in leadership
a. Leadership is influence
i. You don’t influence people mind to mind but heart to heart
b. Our people want to feel special and valuable
i. What are you doing to make sure your people feel special? Celebrating their birthdays?
c. People want to receive feedback in an atmosphere of legitimate or genuine concern
i. If people know that you are speaking to them out of genuine concern for their well-being, they will listen
d. People want to be able to come to us when they are facing adversity
i. People will always have adversity, we have to be approachable
3. How do we love our people? 1 Attribute and 1 Action
a. Attribute: Humility
i. It is not about us. Sometimes when we are winning or things are going really well, it is tough to be humble, but arrogance is dangerous, and can be damaging to the influence process
b. Action: Sacrifice
i. Love is never communicated without sacrifice. Some people will never respond, but others will. It is vital that your motivation is not for getting results, but out of your genuine care for your people.
4. 3 Closing thoughts
a. Sometimes people who need love the most deserve it the least.
b. It takes humility and sacrifice to show people that we care.
c. Love has everything to do with leadership.
