High School: Four-year letterwinner in cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Granby High School...three-time MVP of the cross country squad...spent four years as an NJROTC cadet and class leader, as well as two as a MATE ROV team member...was the squad's CEO as a senior, leading the group to a second-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic competition...graduated with honors...member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and volunteered more than 100 hours at Granby Elementary School during his summers.

Personal: The son of Ron and Kathy Moore Verhappen...both parents graduated from Longwood University...has a younger sister, Caroline, who is a high school field hockey player...has been a member of the Tidewater Striders Running Club since he was 13 years old...has logged more than 100 races in the Tidewater area.
