GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Longwood men's golf saved its best for the final round on Tuesday, firing a 4-under par 284 on the way to finishing eighth at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club.
Three Lancers posted red numbers on the final day of competition. Sophomore Parker Brock led the way on Tuesday with a career-best 3-under 69 behind six total birdies.
Sophomore Matthew Hartley and senior Matthew Lyons both shot rounds under par at 70 (-2) and 71 (-1), respectively, on Tuesday. Hartley notched five birdies, while Lyons totaled three birdies and Longwood's lone eagle of the tournament. He carded a three on the par-5, 568-yard 16th hole.
As a team, the Lancers' final round 4-under par score brought its three-round total to 7-over 871. Longwood shot a 4-over 292 in the opening round before wrapping up first day with a 295 (+7) in round two.
Hartley led the way for the Lancers with an even-par 216 over the three rounds to finish in 25th place. He posted 73 (+1) in each of the first two rounds.
Lyons finished in a share of 31st at 219 (+3), while Brock finished the event at 225 (+9) to place 61st.
Sophomore Charlie Spiller posted rounds of 75 (+3), 73 (+1), and 74 (+2) to finish in 51st place at 222.
Sophomore Josh Cummins opened the tournament with a career-best 3-under 69 in the first round. He collected five birdies compared to just two bogeys. For the tournament, he posted a 227 to finish in 68th.
Junior Kai Krishnan shot his best round on Tuesday with a 75 (+3). Competing as an individual, he shot a 237 to finish in 81st.
Host East Carolina posted an 8-under 280 on the final day to win the tournament by two strokes over Georgetown.
