FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team shut out Lynchburg, 7-0, Thursday on the New Lancer Courts.
Longwood dropped just one set on a day the Lancers celebrated their five seniors — Ryan Foster, Gary Huang, Rufus Plane, Timéo Puech and Alejandro Uribe.
Longwood (11-5) took the doubles point by winning on courts two, three and one, respectively. First, Huang and Plane topped Alexandre Gaboardi and Daniel Gomes, 6-1, before Foster and Puech beat Alvaro Quiroga Amaya and Patricio Zepeda, 6-2. Uribe and Daniel Lopez defeated Ricards Spaks and Nicholas Pierreux, 6-4, to complete the doubles sweep.
Uribe began singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gaboardi at No. 3, while Marko Mrdak then beat Gomes, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Plane clinched the match beating Pierreux by the same score at No. 2.
Huang made it 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Quiroga Amaya at No. 5. Foster followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sebastian Sierra at No. 6.
Puech closed the match with a three-set win versus Spaks. Puech won the first set, 6-4, dropped the second, 6-3, but bounced back to take the final set, 10-8.
Lynchburg fell to 7-5 on the season with the loss.
Longwood closes the regular season Saturday at Christopher Newport. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
