FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to UNCW in the Lancers' home opener on Saturday.
Longwood (1-2) claimed the doubles point as Hima Fernando and Magia topped Lucia Gomez and Sophia Catino, 6-2, on court three and Feline van Eijkelenburg and Elizaveta Gnilozubova beat Alicia Eberwein and Simay Keles on court two.
The Seahawks (1-0), though, won five of six singles matches to take the dual.
Fernando beat Gomez, 6-1, 6-0 on court three for Longwood's other win on the day.
Both Magia and Song went to three sets against their opponents. Song took the first set in a tiebreaker against Eda Arli at No. 1, 7-6 (5), but lost the next two, 7-5 and 6-1. On court six, Magia won the second set against Gabbie Glickstein, 6-3 after dropping the first, 6-1. Glickstein won a three-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) to take the match.
Longwood is back in action next Saturday at 1 p.m., at North Carolina Central.
