Late Radford Goal Spoils Longwood's Senior Night

FARMVILLE, Va. - Radford scored in the 90th minute to spoil Longwood men's soccer's Senior Night, 2-1, on Friday night at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

After the teams scored 41 seconds apart early in the second half, it appeared as though the Virginia rivals would settle for a draw. The Highlanders (5-7-4, 2-3-2 Big South), needing a win to keep their Big South Tournament chances alive, had other thoughts. Radford's Jackson Boreham headed home a Dax Booth corner kick with just 48 seconds remaining to lift the visitors to the victory.

The teams played a scoreless first half, before Radford broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. Hugo Roman hit a shot from outside the top of the 18 off the right post and in to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

The Lancers (8-7-1, 3-4 Big South) wasted little time finding the answer on freshman Levon Saribekyan's seventh goal of the season just 48 seconds after the initial tally. On the play, junior Brando Bedolla found space down the left flank. Sophomore Youssef Shafei played the ball to Saribekyan in the penalty area, and despite Radford's Ben Miller getting a hand on it, the ball crossed into the goal, drawing the home team even. The assist was Bedolla's nation-leading 13th of the year, while Shafei picked up his third helper.

Prior the kickoff, Longwood honored its seven-member graduating class of Jahiem Campbell, Benjamin Gaertner, Aristhid Kamdjin, Kunandy Ouattara, Nicolas Pucci, Mesfin Roda, and Ezrah Serralde for their dedication to the Lancer program.

Despite the loss, Longwood qualified for the 2026 Big South Championship for the second time in three seasons under head coach Paul Gilbert. The Lancers will await their opponent to be determined by the league results on Saturday.
