Highlanders Earn Road Win over Lancers, 2-0

Longwood has three-match winning streak end in regular-season home finale

FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's soccer team surrendered two second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to Radford on Wednesday at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

After a scoreless first half, Radford broke through in the 61st minute when Ryane Devlin scored at 60:15 to give the Highlanders the lead. Haley Blake added an insurance goal at 77:12, finishing a play assisted by Ava Kertgate and Ciaira Anderson.

"Honestly I feel like the better team won on the night," Longwood head coach Todd Dyer said. "We struggled to keep the ball or create anything in the first half, but we managed to get to the break at 0-0. The second half, we got on the front foot and really started to do some positive things. Right when it felt like we were grabbing hold of the game, we conceded on the set piece and that changed the dynamic. We were chasing the rest of the way and just couldn't find the breakthrough we needed. It's a tough loss, but one we will own and use to make us better moving forward."

Longwood (6-7-2, 3-3-0 Big South) generated more chances after halftime, recording all nine of its shots in the second half. However, the Lancers managed just two shots on goal -- by Madison Fitzpatrick and Coryn Silberstein -- both of which were stopped by Radford goalkeeper Lexi Radvanyi, who finished with two saves to secure the shutout.

Radford (5-7-1, 3-2-0) finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on target. The Lancers' defense faced consistent pressure, with Longwood's starting goalkeeper Clagett making two saves saves before leaving with an injury early in the second half. Junior Madie Wessel played the final 43:32, turning away four shots.

The loss snapped Longwood's three-match winning streak. The Lancers entered the contest following consecutive shutout victories over Charleston Southern, Winthrop and UNC Asheville, including a 1-0 road win over the league-leading Bulldogs.

Longwood is back on the road Saturday, traveling to Presbyterian. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., on ESPN+.
