BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The Longwood men's soccer team team heads to Campbell and the Eakes Athletics Complex Tuesday at 6 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Lancers fell, 2-0, to No. 15 West Virginia on Friday.
- Both Mountaineers' goals came 10 minutes apart in the second half, as Pablo Pozos scored in the 71st minute and Carlos Hernando converted a penalty in the 81st minute.
- West Virginia played the final 13 minutes with 10 men after Felix Ewald drew a straight red card on a collision with Benjamin Ferrero.
SERIES HISTORY
- Campbell holds a 9-4-1 edge in the all-time series, including winning, 3-1, on Oct. 1, 2024 in Farmville, in the last matchup
- The Camels have won the last five matches in the series.
- Longwood's last victory against the Camels came on Oct. 31, 2018, a 3-0 decision.
- Markus Gronli figured in all three markers with two goals and an assist while Jacob Reimers made a season-high eight saves for the clean sheet.
LANCERS AGAINST THE COASTAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
- Longwood is 8-26-6 all-time against teams currently part of the Coastal Athletic Association.
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
- Campbell is 2-2-2 on the season with a 2-1 win at Winthrop on Aug. 24 and a 2-1 win over William & Mary on AAug. 29 at home.
- The Camels played a 0-0 draw at the College of Charleston in their last outing on Saturday.
- Ethan Roberts leads Campbell in goals with two while three other Camels — Marco Wright and Filipe Matos — have also scored.
- Max Leviton and Kaeden Johnson have split time in goal for the Camels with Leviton starting five of the six games.
- Leviton is 2-1-2 with an 0.60 goals-against average and .857 save percentage with two shutouts.
PLAYING THE BEST
- The Lancers have an opportunity to play at least four teams ranked in the Sept. 9 United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll this season.
- In addition to No. 15 West Virginia, Longwood is also slated for matchups with No. 7 Gardner-Webb, No. 12 High Point and No. 14 Virginia Tech.
- If the Runnin' Bulldogs, Panthers and Hokies remain in the rankings, it will be the first time Longwood will play that many ranked teams in a single season.
LANCERS IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
- Longwood is currently 52nd in the NCAA in shots on goal per game at 5.8.
- Additionally, the Lancers are 68th nationally in shots per game, averaging 13, a figure that also leads the Big South.
- Individually, Syrus Conolly is 77th in the NCAA in goals per game at 0.5.
- The Lancers are also 108th in the country with seven assists.
LANCERS PICKED THIRD IN BIG SOUTH POLL
- Longwood was selected to finish third in the Big South preseason coaches poll, announced on Aug. 13
- The team received 41 points in the voting to finish behind just High Point and Gardner-Webb, which earned 62 and 55 points, respectively. Those two schools split the first-place votes with 2024 regular-season champion Panthers garnering six and the Runnin' Bulldogs picking up the remaining two nods for the top spot.
- The third-place tag for Longwood represents a tie for the highest-ever finish in the Big South preseason poll, matching the 2022 squad.
