FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's soccer was selected to finish in the top half of the Big South, the conference office announced today in the annual preseason coach's poll.
The Lancers were selected fourth in the nine-team Big South, garnering 48 points, behind USC Upstate, High Point and Radford.
The poll comes one day after the Big South released its top returning players, which saw
six Lancers on the list.
Longwood advanced to the Big South postseason last year after finishing fourth in the league standings. The team overcame injuries to close the season strong, with four straight shutouts to close the regular season amid a four-game unbeaten stretch.
The late run was keyed by a defense that held opponents scoreless for more than 360 minutes to close the final campaign.
Sara Curtis was named the Big South Goalkeeper of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season, and center backs
Sydney Robertson (All-Big South First Team) and
Berni Wayland (Big South All-Freshman Team) garnered postseason accolades.
The Lancers are back in action for 2025 and open up against Alabama A&M on Thursday, August 14 at 7 p.m. The team dives into Big South play on September 20 by hosting Gardner-Webb.
