FARMVILLE, Va. – Forward Sam Fischer was named Big South Freshman of the Week after propelling the Lancers to a 5-3 win against VMI with two goals and an assist, the conference announced on Monday.

Fischer finished two opportunities against VMI—one in each half—with her second half goal serving as the game winner.

In the 23^rd minute against VMI, Fischer broke through three defenders off a pass from Sarah Olson, driving it home for her third goal of the season.

Fischer ran it back in the second, scoring a goal off a blocked shot by Sydney Robertson in the 51^st minute for a 4-2 lead.

Fischer is the first Lancer to score four goals in her first three collegiate games since the team joined the Big South in 2012.

The Lancers (3-1) will travel to Catonsville, Maryland, for their first away game of the season against UMBC on August 28^th, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
