WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Longwood men's tennis team held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 Wednesday at William & Mary, but the Tribe won took three off the final four matches in singles to come away with a 4-3 victory in non-conference action at the Mackesy Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Longwood (5-7) won the doubles point as
Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva and
Timéo Puech defeated Nikita Bortnichek and Raz Katz on court one and
Marko Mrdak and
Alejandro Uribe topped Oliver Hague and Albert Hansen, 6-4, at No. 3.
After Hague beat
Petar Belosevic on court two two, 6-4, 6-1, Gonzalez Paiva gave his team the lead again with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Bortnichek on No. 3.
Katz tied the match again at 2-2, coming back to beat
Petter Lindquist on court six after Lindquist won the first set, 7-6 (3). Katz took the next two sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Gur Trakhtenberg then outlasted Puech, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 before Hansen clinched against Uribe with a 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory on No. 4.
Mrdak closed the day with a three-set victory over Sean Joseph at No. 5, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
With the win William & Mary improves to 4-8 on the season.
Next up, the Lancers return to Big South Conference play, hosting Presbyterian Friday at 1 p.m., in Farmville.
